ULTRASOUND SCANS

Ultrasound scans have been used in medicine for decades. Combined with 3D/4D technology, ultrasound offers impressive image resolution and quality. Combined with color Doppler, it provides valuable information on blood flow and vasculature in the area being examined.

With the General Electric VOLUSON 730 ultrasound scanner, with με 2,5 MHz- 12MHz 3D-4D triplex & power Doppler probes, we can provide the following ultrasound scans:

General ultrasound scans

  • Upper and lower abdomen
  • Kidney
  • Urinary bladder and prostate (with measurement of urine residue)
  • Triplex scan of the carotid and vertebral arteries, as well as the abdominal aorta and the splenoportal axis
  • Triplex scan of peripheral blood vessels (veins and arteries) in the upper and lower limbs
  • Scan of the uterus and ovaries (transabdominally and transvaginally)
  • Ovulation tracking
  • orbital cavities
  • breasts
  • testicles, seminal vessels, corpus cavernosum
  • Thyroid, parathyroid and parotid glands, breasts, muscles, tendons, and other soft tissues

Scans for babies, infants, and children

  • Hip sonography as per Reinhardt Graf
  • Upper digestive tract, to check for possible gastroesophageal reflux or pyloric stenosis
  • Urinary tract (kidneys and bladder), to check for possible vesicoureteral reflux
  • Triplex of the scrotum, for the detection of cryptorchidism
  • abdominal scan, to check for possible acute inflammation

Pregnancy Scans

Here our leaflet on ultrasound scans in pregnancy.

  • The first pregnancy scan, usually scheduled between week 5 and week 7 – this confirms the pregnancy and the embryo’s heart beat
  • Week 11 – 13: Nuchal translucency scan (NT scan) and PAPP-Α
  • Week 16 – 18: a-test
  • B-level scan, usually between weeks 20 and 24
  • Weeks 31- 34: developmental scan using colored Doppler imaging of the umbilical and uterine arteries
  • Biophysical profile, towards the end of the pregnancy, when we need to estimate how safe it is to wait for delivery. This can be combined with a color Doppler test of the umbilical and uterine arteries of the mother, as well as the brain arteries of the foetus.
